This step comes following the refusal by the UK government to hold a public inquiry into the Bellaghy man’s death.

The heartbroken family of murdered GAA official Sean Brown have taken their campaign for justice to London.

Clare Loughran, the daughter of Sean Brown has shared how  awareness of the campaign will be taken to the streets of the British capital.

This step comes following the refusal by the UK government to hold a public inquiry into the Bellaghy man’s death.

The 61-year-old chairman of Wolfe Tones GAA Club was ambushed, kidnapped and murdered by loyalist paramilitaries as he locked the gates of the club in May 1997.

No-one has ever been convicted of his killing.

This week, an Advan will travel throughout London highlighting the campaign.

The van features the GAA man’s photograph and demands: “Public inquiry now. The family deserves answers”.

The ad also highlights: “MI5 & MoD refusing to release files on the 1997 loyalist murder of innocent civilians.”

Sean’s daughter Clare said: “This week we bring our continued campaign for truth and justice to London to raise awareness of the truly awful way the state is continuing to hide the horrific details behind our father’s murder. Keep an eye this week for the Advan travelling through London city centre.”

Sinn Féin MP Cathal Mallaghan has also renewed calls for the British government to establish a public inquiry into the murder of Sean Brown without further delay.

“Twenty-eight years on from his killing, it is a shameful indictment of British justice that Sean Brown’s family are still fighting for truth and accountability,” said the Sinn Féin man.

“The depth of feeling in communities across Ireland should not be underestimated. That was reflected in the thousands who gathered in Bellaghy in solidarity with the Brown family.

“The courts have been clear — the only viable, human rights-compliant way to achieve truth and justice is through a fully independent public inquiry.

“It’s time for the truth. The British government must end its cruel campaign of delay and denial, which shows a shocking level of contempt and disrespect for Bridie Brown and her family.

“Sinn Féin will continue to stand with the Browns and all families still seeking answers about the killings of their loved ones.”

East Derry MLA Cara Hunter also offered support to the Brown family saying,

“I want to put on record my admiration for the Brown family who have fought for justice for more than 25 years after the murder of their father, Sean Brown.

“No family should have to wait decades for answers. Sean was a beloved husband, father, and community leader who was murdered.

“The British Government - It’s time for answers and transparency the family deserves.

“The continued delays and failures in this case are a deep injustice. The truth must be heard. Justice must be done.”
