The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival has officially commenced its landmark 25th anniversary celebrations following a high energy opening day that showcased a vibrant mix of local talent and international stars. Music fans gathered across the city yesterday to witness standout performances from acclaimed artists such as Muireann Bradley and Guy Davis, setting a sophisticated tone for the busy holiday weekend ahead. Organisers expect more than 100,000 visitors to flood the city streets and venues through Monday May 4th. The ambitious 2026 programme features an extensive lineup of over 300 performances staged in more than 60 different locations. This year’s anniversary edition aims to be the most inclusive yet by offering a diverse range of activities including dance and music workshops, professional masterclasses, and lively alfresco street performances. A significant portion of the festival schedule remains free to the public, ensuring that the spirit of jazz is accessible to the entire community. From intimate club gigs to grand stage productions, the city has been transformed into a global hub for big band and jazz enthusiasts.
