A special event will be held later this month to remember of an ‘inspirational’ young Derry woman who died earlier this year.

Emma McLaughlin died in August after a 14-year battle with cancer.

Emma, affectionately known as ‘Dizzy’ to her friends, was only 37 years old.

In 2012, her family and friends had organised a music event called ‘Dance for Dizzy’ to raise money to send her to the US for specialist cancer treatment.

Now, another ‘Dancy for Dizzy’ event is being organised to raise money for cancer services in memory of Emma, who was from the Garden City area of Derry and who had one daughter, Hope.

The event, which will take place at Sandinos Bar on Thursday, November 24, will feature some of the best known local singers and bands.

Among those who have agreed to perform are Paddy Nash and the Happy Enchiladas, the Henry Girls and Ports.

Tickets for the event cost £10 and are now available from Sandinos.

An online fundraising page has been set up to give people who cannot make the ‘Dance for Dizzy’ event but who would like to make a donation.

The page can be contacted at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Dancefordizzy.

In a tribute to Emma after her death, her family said she had touched the lives of so many people.

“In one short life she lived a thousand lives, gave a planet full of hugs and smiled a universe of smiles.

“What has come to pass has broken the hearts of those who love her.

“But like wonderful beautiful Emma, like wild horses, we must be true to the legacy of her resilient spirit and emerge unbroken.”
