Limavady United 1

Institute were denied a significant derby victory over Limavady United thanks to an injury-time header from substitute Andrew Whiteside in a dramatic finale at the Brandywell.

Having dominated the first half in which they missed several big opportunities, ‘Stute finally went ahead early in the second half when Stephen Doherty’s effort confused goalkeeper Martin Gallagher and ended up in the net.

Limavady, pushing for promotion from the NIFL Championship, were not at their best throughout and could only rely on set-plays, and it was from their last corner of the game that they saved themselves, Whiteside’s downward header finding the net.

It leaves ‘Stute on seven points from three games over the Christmas period ahead of a trip to struggling Newington on Monday.
