An Irish language group has been set up in response to the decision by DUP Minister Paul Givan to cut the Líofa Gaeltacht Bursary Scheme.

'An Dream Dearg' has been set up to protest the decision.

In a statement on their Facebook page the group said:

"We are An Dream Dearg. You are An Dream Dearg. Anyone who believes in Rights, Respect and Recognition for all is An Dream Dearg. Join this open network of Irish language activists from all corners and backgrounds. Take part. Be #DeargLeFearg."

The group is encouraging people to change their Facebook profile picture to the image pictured above and post the following message:

"I have changed my profile picture to a symbol Gaels have agreed upon to show our opposition and disgust at the DUP's attack on the Irish language. Dearg le fearg!"

The group is holding a protest at the Department of Communities Headquarters in Belfast this Thursday at 12:3opm.
