Jamie McGonigle has left Derry City to join Irish League side Coleraine.

With Pat Hoban set to be unveiled at the Brandywell in the coming days, McGonigle’s time at the club has now come to an end.

McGonigle joined Derry City in the summer of 2021, and had an immediate impact at the club, finishing as top scorer on 8 goals and providing 2 assists in just 18 appearances. His goals, including a wonder strike at Dalymount Park in September, a penalty at Finn Harps in November and the winner at Oriel Park on the final day, helped City finish with European qualification.

McGonigle was even better in the 2022 season, and again finished as top scorer with 15 goals and 5 assists from 42 appearances as Derry City finished in second place, and qualified for Europe once again. McGonigle also opened the scoring in the famous FAI Cup final win over Shelbourne at the Aviva Stadium.

The past 12 months have bene difficult for McGonigle however. Despite scoring the winner against Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght last March, he didn’t net again for three months, with injury and loss of form seeing him score just five goals all season, starting just 16 of 36 league games. His last goal for the club came in the 6-0 win over UCD at the Brandywell in September.

Overall, McGonigle scored 28 goals in 92 appearances for the club.
