Jobs boost as Derry software company sold for £26.9 million
Derry-based software company 8over8 has been sold in a deal worth £26.9 million.
The company, which operates out of the newly-opened North West Science Park (pictured above) at the former "Fort George" site in the Pennyburn area of the city, has been bought by Cambridge-based Aveva which hopes to create new jobs at the Derry base.
A world leader in software for shipbuilding and major plant construction and maintenance, Aveva said it had bought 8over8 to increase project control, capital discipline, and to minimise project overruns.
8over8 is already used by some of the largest companies in the oil and gas, mining, and construction sectors, managing multi-billion dollar capital projects.
Richard Longdon, Aveva boss, said: "Now more than ever before, our customers are looking for improved project control and reduced risk to their capital investment programmes.
"We are responding to the needs of all the industries we serve to help our customers maximise their return on capital investment, and drive greater efficiency."
