Kevin O'Doherty (39) of St. Brecan's Park in Derry was charged with criminal damage to a mobile phone that occurred on November 16 2023

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with criminal damage to a mobile phone following an altercation in a kebab shop after a night out.

Kevin O'Doherty (39) of St. Brecan's Park in Derry was charged with the offence that occurred on November 16 2023.

The court heard that O'Doherty was said to be 'acting creepy' by another woman in the shop who then began to film him.

O'Doherty saw her and grabbed her phone, smashing it.

Defense solicitor Paddy MacDermott called the incident 'one of those drunken things', telling the court that O'Doherty 'became paranoid' when he found himself being filmed but that the woman managed to defend herself from him.

He called the incident 'out of character', saying that O'Doherty hadn't been in court since 2016.

District Judge Barney McElhom said that O'Doherty 'should know better than to try anything with a Derry girl', fining him £300.
