Julie Middleton to succeed husband as Foyle MLA

Alderman transitions from local council to Stormont following official confirmation by Chief Electoral Officer Dr David Marshall
Julie Middleton has been formally returned as the new Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Foyle constituency.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Dr David Marshall, officially declared Mrs Middleton’s appointment to the Northern Ireland Assembly on Monday morning following her co-option to the seat.
A resident of Bready, Mrs Middleton brings significant local government experience to the role. She has served as a DUP Alderman for the Faughan District Electoral Area (DEA) within the Derry City & Strabane District Council since 2023. Her transition to the Assembly ensures continued representation for the people of Foyle.
Mrs Middleton replaces her husband, Gary Middleton, who announced his resignation from the Assembly last week. Mr Middleton stepped down to prioritize his mental health, a decision that has received widespread support from colleagues and the local community.
