Kids are disappointed after Skye and Marshall are a no-show at Christmas light switch-on

Plenty of children were disappointed when the characters from Paw Patrol failed to show up at the Christmas lights switch on in Derry on Thursday night.

It has now emerged that the characters Skye and Marshall, from a popular Nickolodeon cartoon, were not authorised.

Derry City and Strabane District Council apologised following the no-show, with marketing officer Jacqueline Whoriskey saying they were sorry to disappoint people.

Speaking to BBC Radio Foyle, she said the council was contacted by the official licensee in America to say that the company they were using did not have the appropriate licences.

"We tried our best to resolve it in time - unfortunately it didn't work out - and are really, really disappointed," she said.

Skye and Marshall had been due to appear with Santa Claus at the Christmas light switch-on in Strabane on Saturday, but it now looks like they won't be there either.
