Large amount of drugs handed in to Derry community centre

A large quantity of illegal drugs has been seized by police after they were handed over to a Derry community centre.

The drugs, which included almost 200 tabs of acid, were handed into the Rosemount Resource Centre on Friday.

Several bags of so called ‘blues’, a street bought version of diazepam, and a large bag of unidentified white powder were among the seizure.

Darren O’Reilly, a youth worker with the Rosemount Resource Centre, said that while he was glad the drugs had been taken off the street, he was concerned that the bulk of the seizure was made up of drugs that could seriously damage young people’s lives.

“I think what’s really alarming here is the amount of LSD with the other drugs, something we don’t usually see,” he said.

“The sheer amount   of Class A drugs here is worrying, along with the blues, is very worrying for the community, given the potential damage LSD can have on vulnerable young people.”

The Rosemount Resource Centre contacted the PSNI in order for the drugs to be disposed of.
