Limavady man's drunken outburst in bank leads to fine

A Limavady man, who became disorderly in a bank because staff wouldn’t give him money out of his account, has appeared before a court.

William Graham of Drumachose Park appeared before Limavady Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with using disorderly behaviour.

The court was told that police were called to Danske Bank at Catherine Street in Limavady on March 14 after they received a report that Graham, who was intoxicated, was being abusive towards staff.

When police arrived at the premises, they found 38 year-old Graham behind a screened area shouting at staff.

When officers attempted to speak to Graham, he shouted: “F**k away off.  It’s f**k all to do with you.  It’s none of your f**king business.”

Graham was asked to calm down, however he continued to be abusive, the court was told.

When an officer asked the bank manager what the issue was, Graham shouted: “Don’t you tell him f**k all you b***h.”

Police subsequently arrested Graham and when he was cautioned for the offence, he replied: “F**k off you b*****d, look at the shape of you.”

Defence solicitor, Brian Stelfox, told the court that Graham had been drinking on the date in question and had gone to the bank to lift out some money.

“He had money in his account but they wouldn’t give it out to him,” said Mr Stelfox, adding that Graham has since apologised to the bank staff.

During sentencing, Deputy District Judge Oonagh Mullan told Graham that his behaviour was ‘totally unacceptable’ on the date in question.

“It was obviously fuelled by alcohol on this occasion,” she added, before fining him £200 and an offender levy of £15.
