The lease marks the end of a long-running negotiation to bring additional sporting capacity to the heart of the estate.

Sean Dolans GAC has taken a massive step toward future-proofing the club’s rapid growth after officially securing a long-term lease for new playing facilities at Ballymagowan Urban Park.

In a move described as a "game-changer" for the Creggan-based club, the agreement with the Neighbourhood Management Team and Apex Housing Association marks the end of a long-running negotiation to bring additional sporting capacity to the heart of the estate.

The deal provides the club with immediate access to two training pitches, relieving the pressure on their existing facilities at Piggery Ridge. With membership numbers soaring across all age grades, the new space will become a primary hub for the club's training sessions and Go Games schedule.

However, the ambitions of the club extend far beyond temporary training space. The agreement includes a strategic long-term vision to transform the site into a second full-sized playing field, providing a permanent home for the club's ever-expanding roster of teams.

A spokesperson for Sean Dolans GAC expressed their delight at the breakthrough, saying: “This is a great example of the community working together to develop an asset for the betterment of the local community.

“We look forward to seeing the pitches being used over the summer months and into the future.”
