Man appears before Derry Magistrates Court charged with criminal damage and breach of bail

A man has appeared in Derry Magistrates Court charged with criminal damage and breach of bail.
Connor Calhoun, 27, of Ballinska Heights, appeared charged with breaching his bail and damaging police property.
Calhoun was arrested on September 30 after being found to be in possession of cannabis, as well as 131 Xanex tablets.
Calhoun was taken into police custody where he asked to talk to his solicitor on the phone, after which he threw the phone.
While in custody, Calhoun caused significant damage to his cell, talking about how he 'hated police' and how they had 'murdered' his father.
The court heard this was Calhoun's second breach of bail.
Defence solicitor Graine McAnaney told the court that Calhoun had 'significant' mental health issues and accepted that his behaviour made the bail application difficult.
He was released on bail under revised conditions and is due to return to court on November 11.
