A man has appeared in Derry Magistrates Court charged with disorderly behaviour.

Paul Farren, 33, of no fixed abode, was found, on October 25, drunk outside Drinx off-licence in Derry.

Police, upon arrival, found Farren to be 'extremely intoxicated' and police offered to take him home.

Farren then told police that he had to go to the toilet and proceeded to wet himself before starting to shout abuse at police, leading to his subsequent arrest.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court that the incident was 'not the worst disorderly' and said that Farren was on a 'merry-go-round of custody'.

District Judge Barney McElhom said that this was 'yet another example' where 'if we had intelligent, competent people in power, who listened to what was being talked about' then things would be different.

He sentenced him to four months, suspended twelve months.
