Brian Thomas Boyle (34) of Carnhill in Derry had been due to be sentenced on August 16 on a charge of threatening to disclose a sexual image of a female

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a man who had an arrest warrant out for him in relation to a revenge porn case had been 'preoccupied' due to the death of a relative.

Brian Thomas Boyle (34) of Carnhill in Derry had been due to be sentenced on August 16 on a charge of threatening to disclose a sexual image of a female on February 6 2023.

At the time he failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Boyle appeared today on foot of the warrant and a defence barrister Michael Donaghey said that his client had been unaware of the court date due to the death of a relative.

He said it was a case that warranted a pre-sentence report and asked for bail pending that report being prepared.

A police officer said that it was their practice not to object to bail if someone had handed themselves in to the police.

Deputy District Judge Laura Ievers said that quite often someone with an arrest warrant would be remanded in custody.

She said she was not going to remand him now but warned him to co-operate with probation.

Boyle will be sentenced on October 11 and was released on bail.
