A man was detected driving at 107mph on the new dual carriageway outside the city, Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.

Cameron Waddell (26) of Hedingham in Moira admitted the charge that occurred on June 17.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan asked the defendant why he was in such a hurry and he replied that he had no reason he just let the speed creep up.

Defence counsel Sarah Gallen said her client was 'very apologetic' and added that he needed his car for work.

Judge Mullan said that the speed was 'irresponsible and dangerous'.

She imposed six penalty points and fined him £250.
