A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with domestic assault, abuse and breaching his bail conditions.

Nathan Kennedy (24) of Old City Court in Derry was charged with the assault that was said to have occurred on October 26.

He was also charged with, between May and October this year, allegedly engaging in coercive behavior against the same injured party.

Police initially received a report that a neighbor had heard screams and saw a man entering the property, and the injured party told police that Kennedy, her former partner, had allegedly entered her property and refused to leave.

Kennedy was subsequently charged with assault and breaching bail as one of his conditions included making no contact with the injured party.

When interviewed, Kennedy provided no comment answers but denied the assault.

Police opposed bail as they believe he is at risk of reoffending.

Defense solicitor Seamus Quigley said there were 'obvious difficulties' in Kennedy's bail application but repeated that he denied the offences.

Bail was denied and he will appear again on November 21.
