Daryl O'Donnell (45) of Belvedere Park in Derry appeared charged with two counts of breaching a Restraining Order and two counts of breaching a non molestation order on June 8 and June 10

A man who indirectly contacted his ex-partner on social media has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates' Court.

Daryl O'Donnell (45) of Belvedere Park in Derry appeared charged with two counts of breaching a Restraining Order and two counts of breaching a non molestation order on June 8 and June 10.

A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail.

The court heard that the woman in the case contacted police to say her former partner, O'Donnell, had contacted a friend of hers on Tik Tok in reference to a video in which he talked about her.

She also told police of an earlier incident in which she had posted a selfie with a friend and O'Donnell had contacted the friend with threatening messages.

The officer said the defendant had not been out of prison very long when these alleged offences occurred.

She said the woman in the case felt she could not 'move on' with her life as everything she did 'sparked' a reaction from O'Donnell.

Bail was opposed as police felt the defendant would not abide by conditions.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client had made full admissions.

He said it was all 'indirect contact' and he gad not made any threats or the like towards the woman.

The solicitor said that O'Donnell had said he was going to come off social media altogether.

He added that the defendant had gone to the police station last week but they had been too busy to deal with him.

District Judge Conor Heaney said that while the breaches might appear 'innocuous' he had no confidence the defendant would abide by conditions.

O'Donnell was remanded in custody to appear again on July 10.
