A man will be sentenced later this month for the theft of more than £80,000 of telephones and electronic tablets from a store in Derry's Foyleside Shopping Centre.

Shane Kavanagh (28) of Patrick Street in Derry admitted a charge of the burglary of the EE store on December 21 last year.

When he appeared at Derry Crown Court today and the charge was put to him he pleaded guilty.

Defence counsel Eoghan Devlin said that his client was a serving prisoner for other matters and he would like this case dealt with as soon as possible.

A prosecution barrister said that they did not yet have a breakdown of the items as there were several large crates.

He said some of the items were damaged and others were fit for resale.

The case was adjourned until September 21 for sentencing.
