Man remanded in custody charged with rape of woman in Derry

A 24-year-old man was remanded in custody when he appeared at Derry Magistrates Court this morning charged with raping a woman in the city 20 months ago.

Eamon Rory Owen McTaggart, whose address on court papers was given as Maghaberry Prison, is accused of committing the offence on an unknown date between 26 and 29 July 2013.

Appearing at a preliminary enquiry, he declined to say anything when the charge was put to him.

A defence solicitor told the court it was accepted the accused had a “case to answer.”

McTaggart was remanded in custody to appear for arraignment at Derry Crown Court on 21 April next.
