Man to face trial on series of driving and assault charges

A man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a series of driving and assault charges.

Ruairi Canning (31) of Brandywell Avenue in Derry appeared at a preliminary enquiry at the local Magistrate's Court today.

He is charged with dangerous driving on the Upper Galliagh Road and driving while disqualified on January 13, 2023.

He also faced two charges of assault on police as well as a charge of criminal damage to a police vehicle endangering life on the same date. 

It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions. 

Canning said he did not want to make any statement or call any witnesses at this stage. 

He was returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on November 13 and released on bail.
