A man with a New Zealand passport who faces immediate deportation upon release from prison has been jailed at Derry Crown Court for two trips bringing drugs valued at between £28,000 and £40,000 from Belfast to Derry.
Pofen Huang (64) of Old Baker's Court in Belfast admitted offences that occurred between October 14 and October 18, 2022 and also on November 24, 2022.
The court heard that police stopped a car on November 24 and found a 'large amount of herbal cannabis'.
Huang was seen alighting from a train from Belfast entering a vehicle and then getting out without his rucksack in Duke Street, a short distance away.
At interview Huang made admissions to bringing drugs from Belfast to Derry on two occasions for which he was paid.
The court heard that Huang had arrived in the UK on October 2022 on a New Zealand passport but had no qualification to stay here and would be deported.
Huang was jailed for two years.
