A man who has 'absolutely no idea what the dispute was about' admitted a charge of assault on another man.

Kieran Kelly (25) of Barr's Lane in Derry admitted a charge of assault on a male on July 31 this year when he appeared at the local Magistrate's Court today.

The court heard that police were told about an assault in Foyle Street and found a man with a bleeding lip.

He told police he had been assaulted by the defendant and gave police a false name.

CCTV footage was examined and Kelly could be seen headbutting the man in the face.

When arrested Kelly made full admissions.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client did not know what the dispute was about but had made full admissions.

He said since the incident his client had made 'strenuous efforts' to refrain from alcohol.

The solicitor said that Kelly had been released from 'a fairly lengthy prison sentence' in June.

Kelly was sentenced to five months in prison suspended for two years.
