A man who was shouting that he would 'snap people's necks' in Derry's Altnagelvin Hospital has been fined at the local Magistrate's Court.

Jamie's Lee Hegarty (22) of no fixed abode admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour in the hospital on June 12.

The court heard that police were called to the hospital after reports of a male acting disorderly.

When they arrived a doctor and nurse told the the defendant had been 'pacing the corridors shouting abuse at members of the public.'

He shouted about snapping people's necks and said 'all medical staff deserved to have their necks snapped'.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that Hegarty had lost his accommodation and had 'spiralled'.

She said there was 'little to be said' for her client acting this way in front of people in the hospital.

The barrister said that the defendant had a clear record and this was 'an isolated incident'.

Hegarty was fined £300 and warned any repeat could lead to custody.
