A man who tried to force his way into a police station has been jailed for three months.

Patrick Crumlish, 18, of Killybrack Close, Omagh, appeared in Derry Magistrates Court charged with disorderly behaviour on June 29 this year when he attempted to force his way into Strand Road Police Station in Derry.

The court heard how Crumlish had been pressing the buzzer outside the station and, when police came out to attempt to stop him he attempted to force his way inside.

He also threw his mobile phone on the ground at the feet of an officer and was abusive.

Crumlish was also charged with assaulting a man in a B&B in the Carlisle Road in Derry on September 13 this year.

The court heard that the defendant was evicted from the B&B but returned just after midnight trying to gain entry.

He was said to have struck the manager who was stopping him from entering on the chest.

When police arrived they discovered that he was in possession of a tablet.

District Judge Barney McElhom handed down a sentence of three months in custody.
