McLaughlin concerned at proposals for Derry residential care homes

Foyle Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has expressed concern at the proposal from the Western Trust to cease admissions at two Derry residential care homes.
Ms McLaughlin, chairperson of the Stormont health committee, said the move to stop intake at William Street and Rectory Field (Waterside) care homes would create fear and anxiety among the residents, their families and loved ones.
Ms McLaughlin and other Sinn Féin representatives stood with the residents and their supporters (pictured) on the street when the proposals to close the homes or limit admissions were first announced almost two years ago.
Ms McLaughlin added: "Since then we have continued to support the residents and their families.
"The reality is we have an ageing population and we have to plan for that to ensure we have adequate facilities for older people.
"The Trust have said they will now carry out a consultation process on these proposals and I would encourage as many people as possible to take part and have their say.”
