McLaughlin welcomes plans for £2m health and wellbeing campus at Altnagelvin
Plans for a new £2 milion health and wellbeing campus at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry have been welcomed by Foyle Sinn Fein MLA Maeve McLaughlin.
The Western Health Trust and MacMillan Cancer Support yesterday unveiled plans for information and support centre, particularly for patients with cancer, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, arthritis and hypertension.
As well as offering information and support for patients, it will also provide support to their families.
Work is due to begin on the construction of the new facility, as well as the refurbishment of Agnes Jones House, in the autumn and is expected to be completed by late 2016.
The announcement follows on from the development of the cancer centre and the construction of the £74 million new wing at the Derry hospital.
Ms McLaughlin, the chairperson of the Stormont Health Committee, said: "These latest proposals are a further indication that we are now eventually seeing significant investment in the health service in the North West."
