Mid Ulster DUP MLA takes up Ice Bucket challenge for charity
Magherafelt's Ian McCrea has joined in the summer fundraising Ice Bucket Challenge that has swept across social media by doing the challenge not once, but twice to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer and Motor Neurone Disease charities.
Speaking after the challenges, The Mid Ulster DUP MLA said: “I received two nominations to take part in the Ice Bucket water Challenge which I was happy to do as part of the fundraising for these charities.
“The challenge is being videoed while having buckets of ice-cold water poured over your head as well as making the challenge to others and posting on social media sites, followed by sending a text to donate to worthy causes such as Macmillian Cancer or Motor Neurone Disease (MND.)
“It came as no surprise that when I was nominated, my family were more than happy to throw ice cold water around me,twice. However the joy of taking the challenge allowed me the opportunity to nominate others and I can say all of them rose to the challenge.
“Whilst this is a laugh and good fun- well for those watching, we should all ensure that regardless of taking part in the challenge or not, we should remember the reason for this awareness campaign and donate by texting ICE to 70550 to give £3 to Macmillian Cancer or text ICED55 £5 to 70070 to support MND.
“Having watched many videos of Facebook friends and family doing their nominations, I want to see Mid Ulster continue to take up the challenge and help these worthy causes,” added Mr MrCrea.
