‘Mystery tour’ woman smashed Derry pub door

A woman smashed a pane of glass in the door of a Derry pub while on a “mystery tour” to the city, the local Magistrates Court has been told.

Amy Reid, of Coolnafranky Park in Cookstown, admitted charges of criminal damage and assault on police.

The court heard that on November 16 last, police were called to the Ice Wharf (pictured) where a group of women were gathered outside after they were refused alcohol in the bar.

Police were told one of the women, Reid, had broken a glass pane in the door of the Ice Wharf by kicking it.

The defendant struggled with police when arrested.

The court heard the 20-year-old had been on a ‘mystery tour’ from Cookstown and before arriving in Derry had consumed almost a full bottle of “Morgan Spice” rum.

Reid told she could not remember breaking the glass which caused £175 to repair.

However, when shown CCTV footage she accepted it was her.

A defence solicitor said Reid had been ‘hopelessly drunk’ and had been kicking out in anger and did not intend to break the glass.

He said Reid had no further matters pending and asked for credit for her early guilty plea.

Reid received a two-year conditional discharge and must pay £175 restitution to Wetherspoons and £100 compensation to a police officer.
