Nadine cuts hair to raise money for charity

A young Derry girl has raised more than £700 for charity by cutting off her three foot long hair.

Fifteen year old Nadine Curran (pictured above) made the brave decision to cut off her locks to raise money for charity.

Her once waist-long hair is now up at her chin in a stylish bob after getting more than 15 inches taken off at Gracious Hairdressers in Strathfoyle.

Nadine has  raised £751 and will donate half to the Little Princess Trust and half to the Sperrin Ward at Altnagelvin Hospital.

The Immaculate Conception College student will also donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust which provides real-hair wigs to children throughout Britain and Ireland who suffer from hair loss.

A donation of £350 will cover the cost of making a wig.

Nadine said cutting her hair was something she had been considering for a long time and felt the timing was right after a friend also went for the chop.

'I’ve been wanting to get my hair cut up since I was a wain and a lot of my family have encouraged me,' said Nadine.

'I felt that this was the right time I thought I’d go for it. I looked up places where you can donate your hair as my friend also done it

I chose the Little Princess Trust as they looked like a charity that would make good use of my hair.

'I was really nervous about getting it cut. It’s the first time I’ve ever got it properly cut. It’s lovely now. My mum really likes it. I feel really good about getting it done now.

'I’ve raised £751 so far from family and friends and I’m hoping to raise more.'

Nadine concluded: 'I’m giving half of the money to the Little Princess Trust and then the other half to the Sperrin Ward at Altnagelvin Hospital.'
