New 'RISE' event in Derry supports families facing addiction

September event at The Everglades aims to unite and support loved ones who feel completely isolated
A vital new community initiative dedicated to supporting the families, friends, and loved ones of those living with addiction has officially announced its inaugural event. Named RISE, the gathering will take place on Sunday, September 13 at The Everglades Hotel in Derry.
While public discourse and healthcare resources frequently focus on the individual struggling with substance abuse, RISE intentionally shifts the spotlight to the surrounding support network.
The event aims to bring together people who may feel isolated, overwhelmed, or unaware of the support structures available to them as they navigate a loved one's addiction.
"Much of the focus is often on the individual struggling with addiction, but RISE shines a light on the people affected alongside them," said an event spokesperson. "Our aim is to bring together those who may feel isolated or believe there is no support available for them, offering hope, connection, and access to local services and resources."

The foundational message of RISE is that recovery and healing involve the whole family. Organisers are designing the day to serve as a safe, welcoming space where people can share experiences, build meaningful connections, and discover where they can turn for help.
Due to the deeply personal and sensitive nature of the event, attendance is strictly capped at 50 spaces to ensure privacy, comfort, and safety for all participants. Organisers urge anyone wishing to attend to secure their place immediately.
