Northlands Addiction Treatment Centre is hosting their first ever Annual Coffee Morning on Saturday, September 19 in Shantallow Community Centre between 10am - 1pm to celebrate recovery month and to help raise vital funds to support the life saving treatment offered by Northlands and everyone is invited.

September celebrates ‘Recovery Month’ and stepping up for their recovery community is the brilliant staff at Shantallow Community Centre who have partnered with Northlands to host the first ever Northlands Annual Coffee Morning.

Shantallow Community Centre hosts various groups, classes, workshops, youth clubs and is also a hub for social inclusion and development.

For over 50 years, Northlands has been a grassroots charity dedicated to delivering essential specialised addiction treatment and support to individuals and families in our communities.

Each year, over 1,000 local people and their families benefit from our services. Its eight-bed facility accommodates residents for enhanced residential treatment which lasts six weeks, while hundreds more receive specialised counselling and non-residential treatment weekly.

Additionally, Northlands offers aftercare sessions in various locations throughout Northern Ireland, facilitated by dedicated volunteers.

Northlands has become a beacon of hope and healing within the Derry community, providing life-saving care year after year. Northlands equip local individuals and families with the necessary tools for positive, lasting change, profoundly impacting and transforming the lives of local people every day.

Each person who achieves sustained recovery through Northlands committed services signifies a life transformed.

Tommy Canning, Head of Treatment at Northlands said: “Recovery Month is an excellent time to shine a light on our services and the vital work being done at Northlands.

“Recovery Month is also an opportunity to celebrate those walking the road to recovery, their families and the communities walking by their side.

“Here at Northlands family is an integral element in treatment and care, and families are involved in the recovery pathway.

“Because family is so important to us we aimed to have a family friendly event that the whole community from every walk of life can get involved in to celebrate recovery month. We are delighted to partner with Shantallow Community Centre to host the first Annual Northlands Coffee Morning.

“We hope to make this an annual celebration of recovery, shining a light on addiction, positive change, community and strength and of course to raise a few pounds for our specialist services that are a lifeline in our communities.

“We ask everyone to take an hour out of their day to call in and have a cuppa, cake, conversation, connection and to support a community that is often in the shadows.”

Conchúr McCauley, Manager, Shantallow Community Centre said: “We are delighted to partner with Northlands for their first Annual Coffee Morning. This is what community is about, uniting to raise awareness about issues that are affecting the people and families that live in our areas, real talk about real life and bringing addiction related issues and recovery to the forefront.

“Supporting people, connecting with people and making a difference in our communities is only possible through positive collaborations like our partnership with Northlands. There are so many families in our community and in the surrounding areas whose lives have been affected by addiction.

“Our Community Centre is a hub for support, care and inclusion. It seemed the perfect place to hold the Northlands Coffee Morning and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our centre to celebrate recovery month and to support a vital charity which is making a difference in our city and further afield.”
