'Oil giants are profiteering on the back of illegal wars' – Cllr Sandra Duffy

'Multinationals are revelling in the ongoing fuel and energy crisis and profiteering off its back'
The British Government has been called on to introduce a windfall tax on oil and gas producers and to cut taxes on petrol and diesel, by Derry City and Strabane District councillor Sandra Duffy (Sinn Féin).
Cllr Duffy was speaking after oil giant BP announced that its profits reached $3.2 billion in the first three months of 2026.
“Workers and families are struggling to make ends meet while oil giants enjoy eye-watering profits amounting to billions,” said the Ballyarnett councillor.
“Far from suffering just as ordinary people are, these multinationals are revelling in the ongoing fuel and energy crisis and profiteering off its back.
“The British government needs to introduce a windfall tax on oil and gas producers and cut taxes on petrol and diesel immediately.
“Ordinary people cannot wait any longer for support.”
