Sinn Féin councillor Aisling Hutton has appealed to parents in the Bogside to ensure their children are not getting caught up with groups involved in targeting vehicles with water balloons as they drive in and around the Lecky Road Flyover.
She said: "I was contacted by a number of constituents this week who had their cars attacked travelling through the area. On one occasion a taxi with a number of passengers on board was targeted.
"In around the Lecky Road Flyover has some of the busiest pedestrian crossings in the city and I am afraid we will see a serious accident if these attacks continue.
"Some were badly shaken by these incidents and asked me to highlight it in the hope it could help prevent an accident.
"I would appeal to parents to dissuade young people from getting involved in this activity immediately."
