Planned 'anti-immigration' demonstration for Derry cancelled

A planned anti-immigration demonstration in Derry will not go-ahead, it has been confirmed.
The demonstration, which claimed to be about protecting children, was planned to take place on Friday evening at Dale's Corner in the Waterside area of the city.
The demonstration was due to be the first in Derry following several nights of violence in Belfast.
However the demonstration has now been scrapped according to local anti-racism group, United Against Racism.
A spokesperson for the group said: "After receiving assurances from organisations working within the Waterside that the anti-immigrant rally will not take place, we have decided not to organise a formal counter protest.
"United Against Racism members will be at Dale's Corner to monitor the situation and if any racists attempt to have a demonstration we will call on supporters to challenge them.
"It is clear that no one from the Waterside wants these fascists there.
"Derry is united against racism. We will not allow division."
A massive crowd attended yesterday evenings community solidarity rally in Guildhall Square.
