Poignant memorial service at Foyle Hospice tonight
The Foyle Hospice in Derry will this evening hold an annual event which gives people the chance to remember a deceased loved one at Christmas.
The Light up a Life event will take place in the Culmore Road grounds at 8.00pm.
The event will see hundreds of lights placed on a Christmas tree in memory of loved ones.
The recommended donation is £5 per light with a special commemorative card or pin given in recognition of every individual being remembered through the Light up a Life Appeal.
A spokesperson for the hospice said it was a poignant event.
“Whilst some of us may not have personal experience of these directly, it is unlikely that any of us will not know someone who has been affected by a terminal illness.
“Everyone knows someone who has required nursing and palliative care.
“Life is a journey of many twists and turns and at Foyle Hospice, we aim to create a better quality of life for those who are suffering from life limiting illnesses including but not limited to cancer, Motor Neuron disease, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
“Your support will enable us to continue with our work across the local community and allow the Foyle Hospice to provide its much needed services across the North West.”
