Police in Limavady received a report of a man telling children to a leave a park in the Benevenagh Drive area in a threatening manner at approximately 8.55pm on Thursday, July 23.
Local officers attended with the assistance of Air Support Unit and Armed Response Unit colleagues, and conducted a significant search of the area. No-one matching the description provided was located.
Local Policing Inspector Roxborough said: “We are aware of reports on social media alleging that the man was making sexualised comments towards children, and want to emphasise that this is not what was reported to police.
“As evidenced by our response, when we dispatched a substantial number of officers to the area, we take any reported threat towards the safety of children extremely seriously.
“We would ask that the public avoid speculation, and instead contact us with any information they may have.”
