Redundant Ilex workers take action against NI Executive

Former Ilex staff are taking a case against Stormont over their job losses when the company closed in March this year.

Ilex was first set up in 2003, and lists the construction of the Peace Bridge, the development of Ebrington (pictured) and the Science Park at Fort George as its successes.

However, an independent review in July 2015 criticised the organisation’s achievements and Ilex's failure to attract private investment to the sites that it was in charge of.

Nine former employees are now taking action, claiming that the Northern Ireland Executive breached employment law, according to BBC Radio Foyle.

When Ilex closed in March 2016, 18 Ilex workers were made redundant and the two bases were handed over to Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Now, nine of those employees say their jobs should also be handed to the council under a law which ensures workers move from one employer to another when a business changes hands.
