Relief as elderly Derry man shows up safe and well after going missing today

Concerns have been eased about a missing Derry man who has turned up safe and well.

Police and the family of 86-year-old William Doherty were growing increasingly concerned for his safety after he was reported missing earlier in the day.

William, who is from the Culmore Road area of Derry, was last seen at a service station at the bottom of the Glenshane Road at around 4.15pm.

William was driving a silver E320 Mercedes registration BUI 6000 and police believed he may have travelled to Belfast and then to Fermanagh, possibly crossing the border at Pettigo.

But he has now been found safe and well.
