Man of no Property remembered for 'The Lid of Me Granny's Bin'

There was sadness in Derry and beyond as news emerged of the passing of Joe Mulheron (76) the owner of the Sandino’s Bar in the city.

Originally from Belfast, Joe was also a member of the folk band, Men of No Property and penned the iconic song, ‘The Lid of Me Granny’s Bin’ in the early 70s.

Paying tribute to Joe Mulheron on Twitter, Darach MacDonald wrote: "Joe Mulheron, the Man of No Property, the founder of Sandino's in Derry – the best socialist bar in the world – has passed away. No pasaran, vive Sandino, vive Joe."

SDLP leader, Colum Eastwood said: "Very sorry to learn of the passing of well known and respected publican and folk singer Joe Mulheron. Joe will be sorely missed but remembered fondly. Thinking of Joe’s family and all who knew him at this difficult time."

Meanwhile the Staff of Peadar O'Donnell's bar sent their sincere condolences to the family, and many friends, of Joe Mulheron, owner of Sandino's, on his passing.
