Sentence deferred for Derry woman who admitted handling stolen vodka

Karen Deery (41) of Columbcille Court in Derry admitted handling stolen goods on January 25 this year
A woman has had her sentencing deferred until February next year after she admitted a charge of handling stolen goods on January 25 this year.
Karen Deery (41) of Columbcille Court in Derry admitted handling a stolen bottle of vodka.
The court heard that police were called to Tescos after a male had entered and stole two bottles of vodka.
CCTV identified the male who was observed in Sackville Street and when police approached he made off.
Deery and another woman hid the bottles under their coats and when police challenged her she said that the man had set the bottles down and she had picked it up.
Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that there had been a 'de-escalation' in this defendant's offending.
Deputy District Judge Peter Prenter said he would defer sentence until February 5 next year to see if Deery could stay out of trouble.
