Singer releases James McClean tribute song and his stance on the poppy

A singer has released a James McClean tribute song defending the footballer’s poppy stance.
Damien Dempsey has dedicated his latest song to the Republic of Ireland and Wrexham winger.
The song is titled ‘James McClean’ and describes how the Derry man has faced sectarian abuse across his career in the Premier League and EFL.
McClean has always refused to wear a remembrance poppy each season as he believes it to be a “gesture of disrespect” towards victims of the Troubles, especially the victims in Bloody Sunday in January 30, 1972.
The Dublin singer-songwriter has released the song on YouTube, with it being part of his latest album, Hold Your Joy.
