Suspended jail sentence for giving false name to Derry Court

A 37-year-old man who used a false name when he appeared at Derry Magistrates Court on a drink driving charge almost six years ago has been given a suspended jail sentence at the city's Crown Court.

Dang Yu, of Culmore Road, admitted a charge of perverting the course of justice relating to the case held on 29 January 2009.

Today's hearing at the Crown Court heard he had told his solicitor the truth but they did not act on it.

The solicitor has since been jailed for separate unrelated dishonesty offences.

Dang was given a three months jail sentence, suspended for two years.
