Suspended sentence for Derry man who breached Sexual Offences Prevention Order

Michael Coyle (41) of Rockmills in Derry admitted breaching his order on August 22 last year and on December 25
A man who admitted two breaches of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order has been warned that he has to 'be more careful' if he is to avoid prison.
Michael Coyle (41) of Rockmills in Derry admitted breaching his order on August 22 last year and on December 25.
The court heard that as part of the order Coyle was supposed to notify police on an annual basis.
When he failed to do this in August he spent four months in custody.
When released from custody he failed to notify police as to where he was living until reminded by his mother.
Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that Coyle had returned to the same address and had simply neglected going to police.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that what concerned him was that this was Coyle's third breach having been before the court in 2021 and again in 2023.
Coyle was sentenced to three months in prison suspended for two years.
