Suspended sentence for Derry man who wanted to drive police car

David Hamilton (29) of no fixed abode was charged after police were alerted to an aggressive male at Rockmills on December 6
A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrates Court charged with disorderly behaviour following an incident in the hospital.
David Hamilton (29) of no fixed abode was charged after police were alerted to an aggressive male at Rockmills on December 6.
Police found Hamilton walking away from the building and spotted a cut on his face, taking him to Altnagelvin to get it looked at.
In the police car, Hamilton attempted to get into the front seat, telling police he wanted to drive.
In the hospital, Hamilton began acting aggressively to staff and was subsequently arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that Hamilton was 'in bad form' not because he didn't get to drive but because he had been assaulted that night but had accepted his offences and pleaded guilty to the charges.
He was sentenced to three months in custody, suspended for twelve months.
