An elderly man has appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court charged with assault.
John Crawley (70) of Columbcille Court in Derry was charged with assaulting another man by hitting him on the head with a walking stick on June 26 last year.
The court heard the incident occurred in Glenfada Park.
Defence Barrister Sinead Rogan said that this was a 'chance run in' between Crawley and the injured party, adding that he had a relevant record but suffered from various 'mental ailments'.
