A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with disorderly behavior and resisting police.
Simon Gibson (34) of Iveagh Gardens in Banbridge in County Down was charged with the incident that occured outside the Brass Neck licensed premises in Derry on August 25 this year when he was spending the night in the city with his partner.
Gibson had been ejected from the bar by staff and was attempting to get back in to his partner. The court heard that police on patrol observed the incident and intervened.
After ignoring calls to calm down from police Gibson was arrested and subsequently charged with disorderly behavior and resisting police.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott told the court that Gibson had two previous suspended sentences that had already expired, adding that he was only attempting to go back inside the bar as his partner was alone in a strange city.
He said it was 'unlikely' the defendant would be back in the city.
Gibson was sentenced to four months in custody, suspended for two years.
