A man who engaged in what a solicitor described as 'reprehensible' behaviour in Derry's Altnagelvin Hospital has been given a suspended sentence at the local Magistrate's Court today.

John Dougan (43) of no fixed abode admitted being disorderly in the hospital on December 15.

The court heard that police were called to a report of a disorderly male in the hospital at 8.15pm.

They attended and found d the defendant who started to shout abuse at them.

He shouted to police to 'f--k off' and also said 'I am f-----go dying'.

He was warned on several occasions to stop shouting and continued.

A police officer told the court that Dougan had no reason to be in the hospital.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had been put out of his accommodation on Saturday and had gone to the hospital.

He said he had behaved badly made worse as there were sick children present.

The solicitor said that Dougan was more 'a danger to himself' than anything else.

Dougan was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
