A man who punched a window in Peadar O'Donnell's bar in Derry has been given a suspended sentence at the local Magistrates’ Court.

Andrew Harris (33) with an address at Morven Park in Dundonald admitted one charge of criminal damage to a window on December 23, 2023.

The court heard that police were called to the bar where staff had detained a man after he had damaged a window by punching it.

The defendant was apologetic and claimed he had not punched the window that hard. Damage to the window was put at £156 and the court was asked to order compensation.

Defence counsel Brendan Kearney said that the reason for the delay in the case was because shortly after this incident the defendant had gone to live in the Republic and had only returned in recent months. He said that Harris now had an offer of employment and had made full admissions.

Harris was given a two month sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £156 in compensation.
